Three days is the ideal stay on Mykonos. It's enough for the town, the beaches, a day trip to Delos, and still have time to eat well, catch two sunsets, and explore beyond the obvious highlights. Here's a day-by-day itinerary that balances culture, beach time, and the things that make Mykonos worth the trip.
In this guide
Three days lets you stop rushing. You get the morning walk through Chora that every visitor does, but you also get the quieter lanes that open up when you have time to wander. You get the beach day, but you can pick a second beach and compare. You get the Delos trip that elevates the whole visit from a beach holiday to something deeper.
Day 1: Mykonos Town

Morning: Walk the Town (08:00-12:30)
Start early while the lanes are empty and the light is soft.
Route: 1. Old Port -- Harbour, fishing boats, pelicans (08:00) 2. Archaeological Museum -- Artefacts from Delos and Rineia, 1 EUR entry (08:30, 45 min) 3. Paraportiani Church -- The five-in-one church, best morning light (09:30) 4. Little Venice -- Waterfront houses, quiet in the morning (09:45) 5. The Windmills -- Panoramic views from the hill (10:00) 6. Kastro neighbourhood -- The oldest part of town, quiet lanes (10:15) 7. Matogianni area -- Shopping street, galleries, coffee (11:00)
12:00 -- Lunch in town
Eat at a backstreet taverna in Chora rather than on the waterfront -- better food, lower prices. Try a souvlaki from one of the shops the locals use (4-7 EUR), or sit down at a taverna for grilled fish and salad (15-25 EUR).
Afternoon: Ornos Beach (13:00-17:00)
Bus from Fabrika (1.80 EUR, 10 minutes). Ornos is the closest organised beach -- sheltered bay, shallow water, sunbeds and tavernas. An easy introduction to Mykonos beaches.
Evening: Little Venice Sunset + Dinner
17:30 -- Sunset at Little Venice. Arrive early for a waterfront seat. Cocktail: 12-18 EUR. The windmills silhouetted against the sunset sky is the image you came for.
19:30 -- Dinner. Try Niko's Taverna for traditional Greek food, or Kastro's for seafood with a view. Budget for 20-35 EUR per person including wine.
Day 2: Delos Day Trip

Morning: The Sacred Island (09:00-14:00)
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Boat from Old Port | Departures from 09:00 |
| Journey | 30 minutes each way |
| Time on Delos | 3-4 hours |
| Entry fee | 20 EUR |
| Boat + entry total | About 45 EUR |
09:00 -- Boat to Delos
Buy tickets in advance in summer. The boat leaves from the Old Port and takes 30 minutes.
09:30-13:00 -- Explore Delos
This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. Walk the Sacred Way, see the Terrace of the Lions, the House of Dionysus with its mosaic floors, the ancient theatre, and the Sacred Lake where Apollo was supposedly born.
Bring water (at least 1.5 litres), sunscreen, a hat, and a snack. There's no shade on Delos and almost nowhere to buy anything.
13:00 -- Boat back to Mykonos
Afternoon: Free Time (14:00-17:00)
Options: - Swim at a nearby beach (Ornos or Agios Stefanos are quick from town) - Browse the shops in Matogianni - Visit Ano Mera village (bus, 20 minutes) for the Panagia Tourliani monastery and cheaper tavernas - Rest at your hotel
Evening: Explore the Food Scene
Skip the waterfront tonight and eat somewhere different: - Jimmy's Gyros -- Budget legend. Fast, cheap, good. - A taverna in the backstreets -- Less touristy, more authentic - M-Eating -- If you want to splurge on contemporary Greek fine dining
After dinner, walk the harbour. The town after dark is a different place -- lit up, buzzing, atmospheric.
Day 3: Beach Day and North Coast

Morning: South Coast Beach Hopping (09:00-13:00)
09:00 -- Bus to Platis Gialos (1.80 EUR from Fabrika)
Buy a water taxi day pass (20 EUR) and hop between beaches:
- Platis Gialos -- Morning swim (09:30-10:30)
- Water taxi to Elia -- The longest beach on the island. Relaxed, clear water. (11:00-12:30)
- Lunch at Elia or water taxi back to Platis Gialos for lunch
Afternoon: North Coast by ATV (14:00-18:00)
Rent an ATV (from 15-25 EUR) and explore the side of Mykonos most visitors miss:
- Panormos Beach -- Bohemian beach bar, golden sand, warm water (14:30)
- Armenistis Lighthouse -- The wild northwest tip. 19-metre tower, views to Tinos, empty landscape. (16:00)
- Return via Ano Mera -- Stop for a coffee or snack at a village cafe
Evening: Final Sunset
18:30 -- Sunset from the Windmills
You watched sunset from Little Venice on Day 1. Tonight, watch it from the windmill hill -- free, panoramic, different angle.
19:30 -- Final dinner
Your last chance to eat the things you liked best. Go back to the souvlaki shop, revisit the taverna, or try somewhere new.

What Should You Know?
- Day 2 (Delos) is the most planned day. Book the boat in advance and check the return schedule. Everything else is flexible.
- The ATV on Day 3 is optional. If you prefer another beach day, skip the north coast and take the water taxi to Agrari or Super Paradise instead.
- Three dinners means three different experiences. Waterfront sunset dinner, backstreet taverna, and a final favourite.
- If nightlife matters, Day 2 evening or Day 3 evening is best. The scene starts late (23:00+) and goes until dawn. Paradise Beach Club is the most famous venue.
- Three days still won't cover everything. You'll miss Tinos, Naxos, the food tour, the cooking class, and most of the north coast. That's fine. It gives you a reason to come back.
Three days in Mykonos: Day 1 is Chora walking tour + beach + sunset. Day 2 is Delos + free time + food exploration. Day 3 is beach hopping + north coast ATV + final sunset. Budget 225-1035 EUR for 3 days depending on style.
