Agrari survives as a quiet beach precisely because it's slightly awkward to reach. There's no direct bus service, and most visitors heading south end up at Elia or Paradise instead. The people who make it to Agrari tend to be the ones who specifically wanted somewhere less crowded. That's the appeal.

How Do You Get There?

Detail Info
Distance from Mykonos Town About 8 km

Walk from Elia Beach About 10-15 minutes along a footpath
By taxi 15-20 minutes from town

The Elia Beach Walk

The most atmospheric way to reach Agrari is on foot from Elia Beach, which does have a bus connection. Walk east along the coastal path -- it's about 10-15 minutes, with one steep section. The path is unpaved and can be slippery in places, so wear proper shoes rather than flip-flops. The walk is worth it for the view alone.

By Car or Scooter

Drive south from Mykonos Town towards Elia, and you'll see the Agrari turnoff signposted. There's a small car park near the beach. In peak season it fills up, but not nearly as quickly as the parking at Elia or Paradise.

What's the Beach Like?

Agrari is about 300 metres of golden sand in a sheltered bay. The beach is split roughly into two halves:

  • Right side (east): Organised section with sunbeds, umbrellas, and the beach taverna. Sunbeds cost around 40-60 EUR for a pair with an umbrella.
  • Left side (west): Mostly free sand with no facilities. Bring your own towel.

The water is crystal clear, shallow near the shore, and calm -- the south-facing bay is protected from the Meltemi wind that batters the north coast. The sandy bottom slopes gradually, making it good for swimming and comfortable for children.

Facilities

Facility Available?
Sunbeds and umbrellas Yes (right side)
Restaurant / taverna Yes (on the beach)
Bar Yes (at the taverna)
Toilets Yes
Outdoor shower Yes
Lifeguard Yes (in summer)
Water sports Yes -- jet ski (about 70 EUR), water skiing, snorkelling
Shops / minimarket No

The beach taverna is the only food option. It's a casual, feet-in-the-sand place with Greek standards -- salads, grilled fish, cold beer. Not cheap by mainland standards, but reasonable by Mykonos standards. There's no obligation to eat or drink when renting sunbeds, which is refreshingly honest.

How Does It Compare to Nearby Beaches?

If Elia is Mykonos's longest and most established beach and Super Paradise is the party, Agrari is the quiet middle child that doesn't try to compete. That's its strength.

When Should You Visit?

All day works. Unlike the party beaches, Agrari doesn't have a "peak hours" problem because it never really gets crowded. Morning is quietest, afternoon is warmest.

May-June and September-October -- The beach is at its best. Warm water, very few people, the taverna is open.

July-August -- Even in peak season, Agrari is less crowded than most south coast beaches. But "less crowded" is relative -- on the hottest August days, the free side can fill up by noon.

What Should You Know Before Going?

  • No direct bus. You need a car, scooter, taxi, or the walk from Elia. This is what keeps the beach quiet, so don't complain about it.
  • Bring water and snacks if you're on the free side. The taverna is the only source of food and drink on the beach.
  • The walk from Elia has a steep section. It's short but noticeable, especially in the heat. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
  • Sunbed prices vary. Reports range from 40 to 60 EUR for a pair with an umbrella. It may depend on where on the beach and what time of season.
  • Water sports are available but this isn't a water sports hub. If windsurfing or kitesurfing is your goal, Kalafatis is a better choice.
  • There's accommodation on the beach. The Agrari Beach Hotel sits right behind the sand. If you want to wake up and walk straight onto a quiet beach, it's a good option.

If you want a quiet beach day with good water, decent food, and minimal hassle -- yes. It's not the most spectacular beach on Mykonos (that's probably Elia for size or Psarou for water clarity), but it delivers something the famous beaches can't: actual peace and quiet on an island that's known for the opposite.

If you're on Mykonos for a week and have already done the big-name beaches, Agrari is an excellent day-four or day-five choice.

Agrari Beach is about 8 km south of Mykonos Town. No bus service -- drive, taxi, or walk from Elia Beach (10-15 minutes). Golden sand, calm water, one taverna. Sunbeds 40-60 EUR. Quiet alternative to Elia and Super Paradise.
