Mykonos has over 25 beaches, and they range from raucous party strips to empty coves with no facilities at all. The south coast has the famous ones -- Paradise, Super Paradise, Psarou, Elia -- with sunbeds, beach clubs, and bus connections. The north coast has the quiet ones -- Panormos, Agios Sostis, Fokos -- with wind, empty sand, and no one trying to sell you anything. Here's what each beach actually offers, who it's best for, and how to get there.
In this guide
The first thing to understand about Mykonos beaches is geography. The south coast faces away from the Meltemi wind and has calmer, warmer water. That's where the infrastructure developed -- the beach clubs, the tavernas, the bus routes. The north coast faces the Meltemi head-on, which keeps it wild, undeveloped, and sometimes too windy to enjoy. Both sides have their appeal; which is "best" depends entirely on what you want from a beach day.

South Coast Beaches

Ornos
The closest organised beach to town and the most family-friendly option on the island. A sheltered bay with shallow water, sunbeds, tavernas, and regular bus service. It's not glamorous, but it works.
Best for: Families with children, easy access, first-day beach visit. Getting there: Bus from town every 20-30 minutes, or walk.
Platis Gialos
The south coast hub. Long, sandy, well-equipped, and the departure point for the water taxi that connects to all the beaches further east. If you only have one beach day, this is the safe bet.
Best for: Versatility, beach hopping (water taxi, 20 EUR day pass), couples, groups. Getting there: Bus from Fabrika every 30 minutes.
Psarou
The celebrity beach. Tiny, sheltered, with the clearest water on the island. Nammos beach club charges 250+ EUR for sunbeds. There's also a free public section with the same water. Both coexist.
Best for: Clear-water swimming, luxury experience (or watching it from the free side). Getting there: Bus from Fabrika station.
Paradise Beach
The original party beach. DJs, loud music, a young international crowd, and a vibe that's either exactly what you want or the exact opposite. The party kicks off in the afternoon and runs into the night.
Best for: Party atmosphere, 18-30 crowd, nightlife. Getting there: Bus from town.
Super Paradise
A step up from Paradise in terms of price and polish. More upscale beach club scene, LGBTQ+ friendly, with a pool bar that opens in the evening. Nudist-friendly on parts of the beach. Not family territory.
Best for: LGBTQ+ scene, upscale parties, beach club culture. Getting there: Shuttle bus (about 20 EUR) or taxi.
Elia
The longest beach on Mykonos. Wide, sandy, with calm water and a relaxed atmosphere. LGBTQ+ friendly. Has a mix of organised sections with sunbeds and quieter areas further along. The bus terminates here, making it easy to reach.
Best for: Long beach days, relaxation, LGBTQ+ visitors, families. Getting there: Bus from town (end of the line).
Agrari
Tucked between Elia and Super Paradise with no bus service. One taverna, some sunbeds, and genuine quiet. The walk from Elia takes 10-15 minutes along a coastal path.
Best for: Escaping crowds, couples, quiet beach days. Getting there: Car, or walk from Elia Beach.
Kalafatis
The water sports beach, 12 km from town on the southeast coast. Windsurfing, kitesurfing, jet skiing -- the Meltemi wind makes this the best spot on the island for wind-powered activities. Also family-friendly with a relaxed atmosphere.
Best for: Windsurfing, active beachgoers, families. Getting there: Bus in summer, or drive.
North Coast Beaches

Panormos
A long golden-sand beach with a bohemian beach bar and warm, clear water. One of the best north-coast options -- far enough from the south coast scene to feel different, developed enough to have food and drink.
Best for: Relaxation, alternative vibe, paddleboarding. Getting there: Car or infrequent bus (every 2 hours).
Agios Sostis
Completely undeveloped. No sunbeds, no facilities, no music, no one. Just sand, rock, sea, and wind. One of the last truly untouched beaches on Mykonos.
Best for: Solitude, naturism, escaping everything. Getting there: Car or scooter only. No bus.
Fokos
Even more remote than Agios Sostis. A rugged cove on the northeast coast with one seasonal taverna. Bring everything you need.
Best for: Adventure, total seclusion. Getting there: Car, rough road.
Kapari
A tiny clifftop beach west of town with views across to Delos. No facilities at all. Popular for sunset watching. Under 15 minutes from town by car.
Best for: Sunset, photography, solitude close to town. Getting there: Car or walk.
How to Choose
I want convenience: Ornos or Platis Gialos. I want the best water: Psarou. I want a party: Paradise or Super Paradise. I want a long, relaxed day: Elia. I want quiet: Agrari or Panormos. I want total solitude: Agios Sostis or Fokos. I want water sports: Kalafatis. I want luxury: Psarou (Nammos). I have kids: Ornos, Platis Gialos, or Kalafatis.
Practical Tips for All Beaches
- The water taxi from Platis Gialos (20 EUR day pass) connects to Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, and Elia. The best way to beach-hop on the south coast.
- Buses from Fabrika station serve Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise, Elia, and Kalafatis. Cheap and regular in summer.
- The Meltemi wind (July-August) makes north coast beaches uncomfortable and south coast beaches relatively calm. Check the forecast.
- Arrive before 11:00 in peak season for the best sunbed selection and parking.
- Bring your own gear to undeveloped beaches. Water, food, sunscreen, umbrella, towel -- there's nothing at Agios Sostis, Fokos, or Kapari.
Mykonos has beaches for every taste: family-friendly (Ornos, Platis Gialos), luxury (Psarou), party (Paradise, Super Paradise), long and relaxed (Elia), quiet (Agrari, Panormos), and wild (Agios Sostis, Fokos). South coast is sheltered; north coast is windswept. Water taxi day pass 20 EUR from Platis Gialos.
